He was born on 26 July 1912 in Přelouč and died on 25 May 1992 in Prague. Painter, draftsman, graphic designer, illustrator and set designer. From 1932 he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague under Prof. O. Nejedly, where he graduated in 1938. In the same year he was awarded the "Italian Prize" and a year-round Italian Scholarship in the competition. He loved the south of Europe, studied in Rome under prof. Carlo Silveri at the Accademia di belle arti from 1938 to 1939. Stays at the Roman Academy and then in Sicily František Emler gained much. He was inspired by the old masters within his color scheme in pictures of fruit still life and interiors with figures. He used tempers, then oil paints and at the end of his drawing watercolor. After the war he graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts under prof. V. Pukla. From 1947 to 1949 he studied in the studio of André Lhot in Paris, and at the same time he was enrolled at the Ecole Nationale supérieur des Beaux arts under prof. Duclose and R. Cami. František Emler is represented in the collections of the National Gallery, GHMP and others. He has also won numerous awards and honorable mentions for illustration books. (Toman's Dictionary)
