He was born on 1 January 1870 in Chotěboř and died on 9 June 1935 in Brno. He worked as a landscape painter. At an early age he moved with his parents to Romania. He graduated from the Academy of Painting in Venice. He traveled through the Eastern countries, visiting the Holy Land, Jerusalem and Cairo. He worked as a professor at the Academy of Arts in Cairo. The Egyptian government commissioned him to decorate many public buildings, including Mohammedan mosques. He stayed in Egypt for 21 years, then returned to his liberated homeland and settled in Brno.
